Join us as author Linda Margolin Royal talks about her book, a powerful historical fiction inspired by her family’s journey from 1940s Lithuania to Australia in the 1960s.

Linda Margolin Royal’s debut novel, The Star on the Grave, is a powerful historical fiction inspired by the true story of Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat who defied his government to issue life-saving visas to Jewish refugees during World War II, among them Royal’s own family.

In 1960s Australia, Rachel Margol, her father and her grandmother live disconnected from one another and haunted by unspoken tragedies.

When Rachel announces her engagement to a Greek Orthodox man, it detonates a long-held secret. The Margols are actually the Margolins: they are Jewish, and Rachel's family has concealed their identity from her and the world. But why? As Rachel struggles to understand this deception, an opportunity arrives to visit Chiune Sugihara, the man who risked his life to save them during World War ll. Rachel becomes determined to meet him, but will a journey to Japan, and the secrets it uncovers, heal the Margolins or fracture them for good?

The Star on the Grave, Linda Margolin Royal’s debut novel, was the top selling historical fiction in Australia within the first two months of its publication, and became a bestseller three months after its release

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing at the conclusion of the event.
