For mobile

  1. Download the BorrowBox app on your mobile device from your App Store.
  2. Open the app and search for 'Willoughby City Library' in the library field. 
  3. Sign in with your Library card number and PIN/password. Please make sure to include 'X' when entering your Library card number.
  4. Agree to the ‘Terms and Conditions’, enter your email address and click 'Done'.
  5. Once you have found an item you want to borrow, click 'Borrow' then 'Confirm Loan'.
  6. Click 'Read Now' to download to your device.

For computer

  1. If you want to borrow eBooks, first ensure that you have Adobe Digital Editions installed and have created an Adobe ID. If you want to borrow eAudiobooks, first ensure that you have Windows Media Player or iTunes installed.
  2. Visit the BorrowBox website.
  3. Sign in with your Library card number and PIN/password. Please make sure to include 'X' when entering your Library card number.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete your registration.
  5. Once you have found an item you want to borrow, click 'Borrow' then 'Confirm Loan'.
  6. Click 'Read now' to download to your device.

You can borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, eComics, as well as stream music, movies, and TV shows on hoopla. hoopla also offers BingePass, which allows unlimited access for seven days to movies, TV series, learning courses, crossword puzzles, podcasts, and more—all with just one borrow.

hoopla Kids Mode

hoopla offers a Kids Mode feature, which provides a child-friendly browsing experience by filtering content to show only age-appropriate eBooks, audiobooks, movies, TV shows, music, and comics.

While Kids Mode helps create a safer experience, it is always the responsibility of parents and guardians to monitor what their children access. Kids Mode can be turned on or off within the hoopla app or website, allowing parents to manage their child’s digital library experience.

Loan Limits & Borrowing Rules

  • You receive 10 loan credits per month to borrow items across all formats.
  • Loan credits reset on the first day of each month—unused credits do not roll over.
  • Titles are always available—no need to place holds or wait.
  • Items cannot be renewed, but you can borrow them again if you have available credits.
  • Loans automatically return at the end of the lending period.
  • You can stream or download titles for offline use, offering flexibility in how and when you access your content.

  1. Download the hoopla Digital app on your mobile device from your App Store.
  2. Open the app and click on the ‘SIGN UP’ button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Search and select 'Willoughby City Council (NSW)' as your library, then click 'Next'.
  4. Enter your Library card number and password, then click 'Next'. Please make sure to include 'X' when entering your Library card number. 
  5. Read and agree the terms and conditions and privacy policy, then click 'Next'.
  6. Create an account using your email address and password.
  7. Once you have found an item you want to borrow, click on the title and then click the Borrow button.
  8. Your borrowed titles can be viewed or played right after borrowing and can be found under the ‘My hoopla’ tab.
  9. Borrowed titles will be automatically return at the end of the lending period.

For computer

  1. Open the hoopla website.
  2. Click the 'GET STARTED' button.
  3. Search and select 'Willoughby City Council (NSW)' as your library, then click 'Next'.
  4. Enter your library card number and password, then click 'Next'. Please make sure to include 'X' when entering your Library card number.
  5. Read and agree the terms and conditions and privacy policy, then click 'Next'.
  6. Create an account using your email address and password.
  7. Click 'COMPLETE REGISTRATION' to finalise your sign up.
  8. Once you have found an item you want to borrow, click on the title and then click the Borrow button.
  9. Your borrowed titles can be viewed or played right after borrowing and can be found under the ‘My hoopla’ tab.
  10. Borrowed titles will be automatically returned when your lending period is over.  

indyreads provides access to a range of eBook and eAudiobooks to support all NSW public libraries. Content on indyreads includes Australian authors, independent publishers, community language collections, and NSW local studies content. 

  • You can borrow 20 eBooks for 3 weeks.
  • Items can be renewed twice if there are no reservations.
  • There are no reservation fees and your loans are automatically returned upon expiry.

  2. Open the app and search for 'Willoughby City Library' in the 'Select library' field.
  3. Sign in with your library card number and PIN/password. Please make sure to include 'X' when entering your library card number.
  4. Read and accept the 'Terms and conditions of use' and click 'Log in'.
  5. Once you have found an item you want to borrow, click the item image.
  6. Click 'Borrow'.
  7. Click the download icon to download to your device. 

For computer

  1. Open the indyreads website.
  2. Click 'Log in' and search for 'Willoughby City Library' in the 'Select library' field.
  3. Sign in with your library card number and PIN/password. Please make sure to include 'X' when entering your library card number.
  4. Once you have found an item you want to borrow, click the item image.
  5. Click 'Borrow'.
  6. Click 'Read' to read or download to your computer.
