Volunteering information

We are inviting volunteers to join our team and help create another inspiring, welcoming celebration of literature. Volunteers will gain valuable experience contributing to a major cultural event and enjoy the chance to meet authors and professional speakers.

Purpose

Support library staff to manage venues and assist attendees at the Willoughby Literary Festival.

Availability

Volunteers are required for a minimum of two shifts.

Shift times

• Friday 17 July: 9am–1:30 pm or 1pm–5:30 pm
• Saturday 18 July: 9 am–1:30 pm or 1 pm–5:30 pm
• Sunday 19 July: 9 am–1:30 pm or 1 pm–5:30 pm

Volunteer roles

Front of house and event support

• Greet authors, guests and attendees
• Provide information and directions
• Distribute programs
• Support authors and speakers
• Assist with general enquiries

Venue support

• Set up and pack down rooms (chairs, signage, AV)
• Monitor entry, exit and room capacity
• Assist with check-in for sessions and workshops
• Liaise with staff regarding AV or venue issues

Logistics and general support

• Assist with event set-up and pack-down
• Support book signings and manage queues
• Help maintain clean, safe and welcoming spaces
• Provide accessibility assistance where needed

Skills and requirements

• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team
• Punctual, reliable and a good communicator
