Creative writing course for teens (11-15 years)

Join us over five weeks as we dive into characterisation, plot, research, setting, and self-editing with Irveen Kaur.


Irveen has taught creative writing for the past 2 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from UTS and is passionate about creative writing. She has written several short stories, essays and a novel.

During this creative writing fundamentals course, participants will learn actionable techniques to improve their creative writing skills. This course focuses on helping students to:

  • Brainstorm story ideas.
  • Build an understanding of the genre they’d like to write in.
  • Do research related to their areas of interest.
  • Frame the story to make it engaging.
  • Build multidimensional characters.
  • Create a story arc.
  • Manage the writing process.
  • Self-edit a draft.
  • Polish the final piece.

Please note:

  • This event is ticketed at $25.00 per ticket (plus Eventbrite fees).
  • One ticket is for all 5 sessions.
  • Tickets are non-refundable, including for missed sessions.
  • There are only 15 spaces available.

What to bring?

A notebook and a pen or write on your device.

Children under the age of 11 should be supervised by someone over 18 at all times in the Library.
