Chen Ah Teak's Market Garden

Corner Eastern Valley Way & Victoria Avenue, Middle Cove

Chen Ah Teak cultivated about 30 acres of market gardens on Eastern Valley Way, from 1882 until 1896, when Quang Lee bought the land. The land was part of a grant to James William Bligh in 1858. Bligh was the Chairman of the first Council of North Willoughby in 1865. The English, Scottish and Australian Bank bought the land in 1901, although Chinese gardeners worked the land until 1908, when it was sold to Thomas Ackling. The site is now used predominantly for residential purposes.
