Eastern Valley Way

In front of Butt Park, Edinburgh Road, Castlecrag

The Eastern Valley Way was opened on 9 September 1939 by William M Hughes MP. It was constructed as one of the Unemployment Relief Schemes in the Willoughby Municipality during the 1930s Depression. Walter Burley Griffin is said to have originated the idea of combining a number of small streets – Eric Road, Lyle Street and part of Warrane Road - to form an “arterial highway”.
