Northbridge Theatre

North-west corner Sailors Bay Road & Eastern Valley Way, Northbridge

Mrs Stella May Blakeney bought the land in 1926 and built the cinema over the next few years at a cost of £9,000. It was opened by Mr Edward Lloyd Sanders M.L.A. on 13/6/1928. It did not prosper for the first eight years of its existence. In 1935 Oscar Theodore Shaft took over as lessee, becoming owner/manager in the following year. Together, he and his wife Patricia ran a very successful popular family cinema. In 1955 the site, together with two adjoining shops and residence, was sold to an oil company which demolished the buildings and built a service station.
