TCN Channel Nine

Main Gate, Artarmon Road, Artarmon

On 16 September 1956 TCN Channel 9 broadcast the first television programme in Australia. This was from St David’s Church Hall in Surry Hills as the Artarmon Road studios had not been finished. The station stands on R H Foster’s St Leonards dairy. TCN Channel 9 acquired the property in 1955 and has added to the property since then. It was the first television station to screen programmes 24 hours a day. In 1982 its first satellite receiving dish was built.
