Wharf on Flat Rock Creek

End of Grafton Road, Naremburn

In the late 1800s a wharf was located on Flat Rock Creek, upstream from the junction with the south arm stream. At the time, Wharf Street (called Long Bay Road until 1890) continued across West Street to the wharf. High grade building sandstone excavated in the West Street quarry was transported from the wharf. The principal quarry operators were Edwin Edward de Baskerville Carden and Jack Brooks who concurrently worked different parts of the quarry. In 1926 Wharf Street became Grafton Avenue when this part of Long Bay was filled in to become Tunks Park.
