Kunqu is one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera, still performed today. It is characterised by its dynamic structure and melody (kunqiang).
In this workshop, you will learn about Kunqu: its history, features, roles, the meaning of colours used in the facemask, costumes, instruments, dances, and the classic plays of Kunqu Opera. You will also be shown techniques so you can paint using simple Chinese ink on a Kunqu opera mask, which you can then take home.
