Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, this group is the perfect opportunity to sharpen your sewing skills and meet other sewing enthusiasts in the community.
Our knowledgeable and friendly sewists will be on hand to offer guidance, answer questions, and share tips and tricks. Whether you're interested in making clothing, home decor, or accessories, our sewing group is the perfect place to get started.
For most sessions, you will be required to bring your own fabric. Make sure to read the requirements and fabric suggestions provided below each session.
October 22nd-November 12th: Embellishment Techniques to Make Placemats
- October 22nd: Basic operation of a sewing machine and making ruffles.
- October 29th: Topstitching techniques.
- November 5th: Patchwork methods.
- November 12th: Appliqué techniques.
Booking Information: You need to book for each of the four sessions individually.
Materials Required:
- Two separate 2m lengths of smooth cotton fabric (e.g., homespun, poplin, or drill), each in a different contrasting colour (e.g., blue and white). Both fabrics should be at least 110cm wide.
- 1-1.5m of a cotton print fabric (patchwork fabrics work well) that coordinates with the chosen colours.
- All fabrics must be prewashed and ironed smooth.
- Sewing thread to match one of the colours.
November 19th & 26th: Beginner's Guide to A Sewing Pattern
- November 19th: How to read a sewing pattern and its instructions, select the correct pattern by size, lay the pattern, transfer pattern markings and cut out the pattern to make a toile/mockup.
- November 26th: How to make basic adjustments to the toile/mockup (made in week 5) for a better fit.
December 3rd: Workshop space for finishing off projects.
