Willoughby Park – Excerpt from Len Forsyth’s Oral History Interview

Author  Forsyth, Len (n.d.). Oral history transcript, p. 15
Date Range 1981
Subject Willoughby Park; Wattle Plantation; Leather Tanning

Willoughby Park, as its known now, was the site of the original wattle plantation where wattle trees were grown and stripped of their bark annually for tanning the leather. The last time I was there, quite a number of years ago, there were still a few of the old wattle trees still struggling on trying to live. That was the top end of McClelland Street. When you got to the park you went straight into natural bush. On the other side, from there down to the gully, was also natural bush.
