Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, this group is the perfect opportunity to sharpen your sewing skills and meet other sewing enthusiasts in the community.
Our knowledgeable and friendly sewists will be on hand to offer guidance, answer questions, and share tips and tricks. Whether you're interested in making clothing, home decor, or accessories, our sewing group is the perfect place to get started.
For most sessions, you will be required to bring your own fabric. Make sure to read the requirements and fabric suggestions provided below each session.

04 March 2025 : Fabrics and fibres, reading a garment sewing pattern, and taking measurements plus free sewing time
This beginner-friendly session will cover textile basics (woven vs. knit fabrics, straight vs. cross grain), how to read a commercial sewing pattern, and taking accurate body measurements (sewing pattern size ≠ store clothing size). Remaining time can be used for unfinished projects or personal sewing.
What to bring:
- 150cm sewing tape measure
- Notebook & pen
- A simple garment sewing pattern* (such as: pajamas, skirt, waistcoat, button-up shirt)

💡 If using a PDF pattern, print on A0 paper (Officeworks can do) instead of A4—2 A0 sheets are much easier to assemble than 30+ A4 pages. Follow the website’s instructions for assembly. Patterns must be fully assembled before class.
11 March 2025: Choosing the right fabric and simple pattern alterations
Building on the previous session, this class will cover how to select the best fabric for your garment and make simple adjustments to improve the fit. Any remaining time can be used for unfinished projects or personal sewing.
What to bring:
- 150cm sewing tape measure
- Notebook & pen
- Paper scissors
- 1 roll of baking paper (any budget brand)
- A simple garment sewing pattern (such as: pajamas, skirt, waistcoat, button-up shirt)
18 March 2025: Tessuti Apron Session 1 / Own Projects
Join us for a demonstration on creating an apron using the Tessuti Apron Pattern (one-size). Participants are also welcome to bring their own projects to work on.
What to bring:
- All supplies for your own projects (pattern, fabric, scissors, etc.) or materials for the Tessuti apron.
1 April 2025: Tessuti Apron Session 2 / Own Projects
In this session, we will continue working on the Tessuti Apron, with a follow-up demonstration. Participants can also focus on their own sewing projects.
What to bring:
- All supplies for your own projects (pattern, fabric, scissors, etc.) or materials for the Tessuti apron.
Senior Festival special session: DIY fabric flower workshop
Date: 25 March 2025
Let your creativity shine as you design and sew vibrant fabric flowers using colourful fabric scraps, ribbons, buttons, and beads. Transform your creations into unique brooches, corsages, or keepsakes that express your personal style.
All levels are welcome. Materials provided for this session.
